Mile Marker: Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr.By Reverb Staff | September 2nd, 2011 | No Comments »
UPDATE 1/13/11: We just received word that Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. will play a last-minute DJ set at Larimer Lounge on Sunday, Jan. 15. The guys are in town supporting Fitz & the Tantrums at the Ogden Theatre and will book it to Larimer after their opening set at the Ogden. Tickets for the Larimer show, $5, are available through larimerlounge.com.
I can still remember the flood of texts draining my cell phone battery during this year’s South by Southwest music festival — all related to this band that had just performed in NASCAR suits. Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. has been on virtually everyone’s radar this year, and for good reason. The Detroit duo’s debut full length, “It’s A Corporate World,” contains some of the most affable, toe-tapping, generally pleasurable indie-pop-rock in recent memory. The harmonies and textures are lush without seeming overly complex or inaccessible. See what I mean on “Nothing But Our Love,” it might be my single favorite Mile Marker recording we’ve ever done. Stream and download the session below, and come back next week for more. –John Hendrickson
