Photo essay: Black Lips @ the Bluebird TheaterBy Nathan Iverson | June 21st, 2011 | No Comments »
Getting hailed on while waiting for the doors (opening an hour and 15 minutes late) didn’t chill the energy of the small initial crowd at the Bluebird Theater on Sunday. School Knights opened as the hipsters dried their Ben Folds glasses. Cerebral Ballzy’s song about pizza, skate boarding, girls, beer and riding the subway kicked the action up notch before the lanky lead singer Honor Titus scaled to the top of the side stage’s housing. The pit in front of the stage exploded into a frenzy when Black Lips kicked off their headlining set. Thrilling the packed theater, Black Lips ripped out new material while weaving in their older stuff like “O Katrina!”
