It’s just after 8 a.m. on Wednesday. Ricardo, some friends and I are about to drive seven hours from Denver to the Telluride Bluegrass Festival in southwestern Colorado. We’re picking up Heather Browne of Fuel/Friends in Colorado Springs on the way down. She promised coffee and homemade “peanut butter oatmeal choco chip cookies” … for breakfast.

There’s a lot of pavement to eat up today. I emailed Heather on Monday night and asked her to make a few CDs for the road — I’ve been going through stacks of my own over the past couple days. And that’s how this mix tape came to be. It’s 10 songs of Heather’s liking, 10 of mine, all loosely related to the road, the mountains, Americana and adventure. We’re going to listen to it this morning in the car, and we’ll be updating with stories and photos of our trip several times a day, every day, for the next five days. Follow our latest exploits on Facebook and Twitter, and check Reverb Thursday-Monday mornings for comprehensive previews, reviews and photo galleries of all things Telluride 2011. Here’s to summer.

Megafaun’s “Guns” would go nicely on here too.
