The Reverb Interview: Brent Loveday of Reno DivorceBy Paige Montgomery | June 14th, 2011 | 1 Comment »
Summer touring season is upon us and whether it’s by car, van, bus or plane, there is no shortage of Denver musicians hitting the road the next two months — but few are traveling as far as veteran punk rockers Reno Divorce who will be playing a number of European dates along side U.S. Bombs and Agnostic Front.
Reverb recently sat down with the very busy Reno front man Brent Loveday to talk about their new album “You Can’t Stay Mad at Me Forever” and their summer travel plans:
Tell us about the new album.
We are in pre-production now and will finish recording in July after returning from our European tour. We are working with Green Door Recordings, owned by our drummer and his brother, Philipe. Philipe is a Blasting Room alumni and I’m really excited to work with him. All in all, the record will be classic Reno Divorce, with our most solid line-up to date. Don’t expect any ballads…its all throttle, no bottle!
You guys have been doing well in the European tour circuit — what areas are you touring in 2011?
Europe has been very kind to us so we’re looking forward to our tour this summer. We’ll be playing club dates and festivals all over the continent including Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland and Austria and we plan to debut material from the new record, which should be released this Fall. Then it’s back on the road to support the release. Watch for U.S. dates in September/October and more Europe in November.
Aside from the new material what else is Reno looking forward to this summer touring season?
2010 nearly killed us. I lost my mother suddenly to cancer, then our drummer of nine years left. I almost threw in the towel. Luckily, I’m in a band with some very stubborn and loyal guys. They carried me through the worst year of my life, I didn’t make it easy but we came out of it stronger and more united than ever. We’ve found a kindred spirit in our new drummer, Ruben Patino. We’ve put a lot of demons to rest and resurrected some of the ideals that got us to where we are.
Reno Divorce will play a local tour kick off show June 17 at the Lion’s Lair. For full summer tour schedule visit their Facebook page.
