This summer’s Soundgarden reunion show at Red Rocks Amphitheatre just got a lot better.

Reverb just got the exclusive word that modern prog-rock wailers the Mars Volta will open the Soundgarden show on July 18.

The prestigious Red Rocks show is currently one of only a few North American shows for the Mars Volta this summer, as the rest of its July and August are occupied by shows in Scandinavia, Russia, Western Europe, Japan and Australia. The band –- which features Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodriguez-Lopez as its core –- hasn’t release a record since 2009’s “Octahedron.”

Tickets, $71.90-$77.50, went on sale today and are available via Ticketmaster.
