PHOTOS: Elton John plays Matthew Shepard benefit in Denver

Photo essay: Elton John @ the Wells Fargo Theatre

Elton John made a one-off appearance in Denver on Tuesday night at the Wells Fargo Theatre. The show benefited the Matthew Shepard Foundation, the charity founded by Shepard’s parents following his 1998 bludgeoning in Wyoming.

A gay rights advocate, John seemed like a logical choice for the show, and has previously played similar benefits in Laramie, Wyo. in 1999 and 2009.

I was at the show tonight, and it was amazing. Pure talent and music. It was just Elton and a piano for over two and a half hours. he played every song I was dying to hear: Your Song, Tiny Dancer, Levon, Daniel, Candle in the Wind, Benny and the Jets… etc etc etc. One of the greatest and most intimate concerts I have been to, and I have been to hundreds.

Love Elton John – he was the first concert I ever saw back in the mid 70′s! The concert was amazing – Elton and a piano – what more do you need? nnHe didn’t preach, but sent the message CELEBRATE DIFFERENCES – DON’T HATE THEM – something we ALL need to remember in this day and age…
