Julian Casablancas likes it dark. For much of the first part of his Wednesday night set, he was virtually invisible to the Ogden Theatre crowd.

The Strokes frontman has gone his own weird way as of late — less guitar, more synth. His rock ‘n’ roll mystery man role verged on detached, and he definitely connected with the audience most when he brought back favorites from the Strokes. L.A. newbies Haim opened up, playing their first show outside of their hometown, providing an energy and enthusiasm that was a refreshing contrast to Casablancas’ cool. – Michael McGrath
