Video: Danielle Ate the Sandwich and Boulder Acoustic Society cover… Miley Cyrus?By Ricardo Baca | January 22nd, 2010 | 3 comments
Built on a base of banjo and stand-up bass, the cover plays with the original’s infrastructure while still paying homage to its catchy pop melody. The original is a hit for a reason, and this video — and its performance at Swallow Hill’s Uke Festival on Feb. 6 — could easily become an underground sensation.
Like many of Danielle’s YouTube videos, this clip isn’t without its snarky sense of humor. It starts with the text: “Every time an acoustic musician covers a pop song … an angel gets her wings,” so they start out with tongue placed firmly in cheek.
But rather than skewering Cyrus’ ridiculous lyrics, the make-shift group has a unique creation on its hands. No, it’s nothing new, an acoustic roots group earnestly covering a saccharine pop song. But they do it well nevertheless, and that’s worth a mention here.
