Beach House kicked off Sunday night’s sold out show at the Boulder Theater with “Wild,” probably the heaviest song from the band’s latest record, "Bloom." But the weight was lost on the members of the audience -- nearly all of whom seemed elated by the Baltimore band’s mere presence, then taken away by the dreamy 90 minutes that followed.

Album review: Beach House, “Bloom”

Beach House plays as if its music has all the time in the world. From its 2006 debut album to its new one, "Bloom," Beach House, the duo of Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally, has fixated on one kind of song: stately, undulating, verse-chorus-verse pop that circles through three or four chords as if they could continue unto infinity.

Seattle’s Sub Pop Records surely has cornered the market on female-fronted dream pop duos with “house” as part of their moniker. Baltimore’s Beach House, the standard-bearer, are vets when compared with newbies Memoryhouse, and any comparisons would only magnify the tangible experience gap last night.
