Salida on Monday will announce the musical acts anchoring a two-day festival that could lure 35,000 concertgoers to town — more than double the population of Chaffee County.

Planning for the still-unnamed festival started with a phone call last fall from Gov. John Hickenlooper, who asked Salida Mayor Jim Dickson if the city would consider a proposal by festival organizer Madison House Presents.

Rapper Royce da 5’9″ (left) and Gang Starr’s legendary DJ Premier have emerged as the a hip-hop super-duo called PRhyme.

The way he tells it, DJ Premier was practically pushed into his newest musical project.

“It wasn’t my idea at all, and I was actually against it at first,” said the 48-year-old producer, formerly one-half of the legendary hip-hop duo Gang Starr. “But I’d never done anything like it before, and I like to challenge myself.”

Mumford & Sons will headline a two-day, one-time music festival in Salida, Colo., the band announced Monday morning. The festival is part of the band’s series of moving music festivals called Gentlemen of the Road Stopovers, which will also be held in four other locations this year.

On Aug. 21-22 the Colorado Gentlemen of the Road Stopover will also bring the Flaming Lips, Dawes, Jenny Lewis, the Vaccines, TuneYards and others.

Plans are in the works to change parking rules along Broadway in the Baker and West Washington Park neighborhoods in an effort to give residents a leg up as the growing number of business customers take more of the available spaces.

Denver Public Works is proposing several changes along the Broadway corridor, spanning from Fifth to Alameda avenues and Cherokee to Sherman Street. In the past few years, popular businesses have led to an influx of cars filling the streets of the surrounding neighborhoods.
