Organized to raise money for the Buffalo Heart Project, which provides assistance to needy Native American tribes, this Friday event kicked off with a tribal blessing by the Plenty Wolf Singers, Lakota Indians from Idaho and South Dakota. Emcee and project founder Jim Page tore into Christopher Columbus and his bloody legacy, while local artist Silent Bear brought the crowd to rapt attention with a song written to the tune of Pete Seeger’s “Bring Him Home,” dedicated to jailed Native American activist Leonard Peltier.

Laura Goldhamer brought her entourage on stage for an eclectic, insightful, folky set, while Reed Foehl stunned the crowd into silence with his haunting melodies. Boulder Acoustic Society took it to the people, both on and off stage, by jumping into the crowd to join the throngs in celebration.

Elephant Revival closed out the night in style, bringing their musical friends on stage to join them in song and keeping the crowd grooving through the early morning hours. And what night would be complete without a bagpipe player? – Joshua Elioseff
