One-time shy bar tender David John Matthews first performed with Tim Reynolds back in 1997 at the Wetlands in New York. Nearly 20 years later, at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas on Thursday, they played again, this time older, wiser and with a much deeper library of music. You could see the bliss in Matthews’ face and hear it in his voice as he sat comfortably alongside his longtime friend, mentor, collaborator and occasional band mate for the first of three sold out shows. Like a married couple, they finished each others’ musical thoughts, dynamically adjusting to each others’ nuances among the 7,000 rapt audience members. – Lewis Cooper
