I wrote the cutline for the photo, so I should probably note that I'm also a longtime Zappa fan who has read his autobiography, interviewed his son, listened to most of his recorded output, etc.I feel OK calling him a whack job, and I say that as a fan who never approaches his "legend" too reverently, lest it negate the self-effacing humor of pretty much everything he did.

Frank Zappa once said "What do you make of a society that is so primitive that it clings to the belief that certain words in its language are so powerful that they could corrupt you the moment you hear them?" but for once in my life I have to object to Frank's assumption and I take great offense to calling Frank Zappa a whack job. He was a genius, an intellectual, an innovator and beautiful free thinking being.Zappa was an incredibly productive and prolific artist with widespread critical acclaim. He is considered by most music historians as one of the most technically astute and original guitarists that ever walked this plant, that combined with the fact that his albums are considered essential in the history of rock music make me wonder how any music review could use the word whack job anywhere near this legend. And yes I know whack job is just a word. Sorry Frank but I just had to defend your honor!PS. Great photos.
