Boys Like Girls did their best to endear themselves to the young crowd at the Ogden Theatre on Tuesday. Photos and text by Jennifer Cohen.

Boston’s Boys Like Girls confidently took the stage at the Ogden Theatre Thursday night, touring behind their sophomore album, “Love Drunk.” Sporting a “Twitter Sucks” wristband, singer-guitarist Martin Johnson developed an instant rapport with the 16-and-over crowd, stating, “You bitches got some altitude here in Colorado!”

Headlining after a four-band opener including Verse Emerge, A Rocket to the Moon, the Maine and Cobra Starship, BLG performed songs from “Love Drunk,” as well as from their 2007 self- titled debut.

Johnson amused fans with a lick-fest not only on his mic, but also on bassist Bryan Donahue’s face. He was hands-on with the front row, frequently grabbing stretched-out fingertips and singing directly into the eyes of a lucky few. At one point, he borrowed someone’s point- and-shoot camera and took pictures of the crowd before turning the camera back to himself for a self-portrait, no doubt making the night even more memorable for that camera owner. Before their set ended, Johnson brought up a front-row fan and handed her the mic for a quick solo.

Although I felt like one of the oldest people there, it was hard not to connect with this young Boston band. Only six days into their “Love Drunk” tour, BLG’s energy was palpable and enjoyable. – Jennifer Cohen
