[...] The quartet successfully mixed humor and sexual innuendo with the perfect amount of schtick, and ended up sounding anything but camp. Huff, decked out in white go-go boots, shining gold nylons, a miniskirt and what looked like a 7-11 clerk’s zippered uniform shirt, adjusted her makeup between almost every song. As she introduced the Wanda Jackson classic “Funnel of Love,” she also drew down the zipper on her blouse and adjusted her bra, preparing both herself and the audience for its saucy sensuality. – Denver Post [...]

Saw Southern Culture on the Skids at Darnell's in Auburn, Ala in the 80s. I believe they look younger now, if that is possible, and definitely not as country. Thanks for the review, Billy. Wish I would have gone now.

I hadn't realized that Billy didn't catch The Hollyfelds' opening set at this show. I would have added:

I'm pretty sure that the Hollyfelds could win over any crowd they play for. The bulk of the crowd was stocking up at beers at the bar when The Hollyfelds took the stage, but pushed forward and filled the floor once they realized this wasn't just some filler opening act in front of them.

Midway into their set, singer Eryn Hoerig gently ribbed a few of the newly initiated who mispronounced their name ("Yeah Holy-felds!") with the mock threat of being fired. An immediate verbal assurance to the contrary, though, as well as a jump right back into the beautiful intertwining female vocals set over a so-classic-it's-alt country base of music let the crowd know that they would, in fact, always be welcome.

By their last song, a rousing cover of Dolly Parton's "Jolene", there was no doubt how serious The Hollyfelds are about the quality and emotion of the music they deliver, show after show. And for the crowd of mostly SCOTS fans, they could chalk up one more niche of music that is truly old-school cool.
