Digable Planets @ the Fox Theatre

Digable Planets’ hip-hop/jazz blend was alive and well at the Fox Theatre on Nov. 16. Photos by Lucia De Giovanni.

Hip-hop’s polymorphous roots seem to lend it to diverse bills. From rock, punk, ska, reggae, jazz and folk to more experimental genres, there’s little that sounds bad when coupled with some killer MCs, beats and an amped crowd. That made the openers for Saturday’s Digable Planets show at Boulder’s Fox Theatre in Boulder unsurprising.

Tomorrow’s Bad Seeds are far from hip-hop, but the L.A. group’s emphasis on multi-genre SoCal party jams fit just right with Digable Planets. Digable, of course, is the Grammy-winning act from the opposite coast that briefly ruled the country with their ubiquitous “Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat).”

Reverb photographer Lucia De Giovanni stopped by the Fox last week to shoot the following photo essay of the two bands. Check it out below.
