Chris Cornell and Timbaland @ the Ogden

Can’t you just hear him belting out “Since U Been Gone”? Photos by Tina Hagerling.

Seemingly random musical pairings are nothing new — think Kanye West and Daft Punk, Beyoncé and Sugarland or Will Oldham and Tortoise — but pairing the lead singer of Soundgarden and Audioslave with hip-hop/R&B super-producer Timbaland seems more left-field than most. Raise your eyebrows if you must, but the two have been criss-crossing the country performing separate co-headlining sets on the heels of Chris Cornell’s latest solo outing.

No, the rapture isn’t nigh. Timbaland’s hands are all over Cornell’s new solo album “Scream,” which he recently called “the best work I’ve done in my career.” Cornell also recently co-wrote the new single from “American Idol” winner David Cook, “Light On.” So, yeah. Put that in your pop pipe and smoke it. Reverb contributor Tina Hagerling dropped by the Ogden Theatre on Friday to document their set, which you can feast your eyes upon below.

looking at these new pictures just made me realize how much chris cornell has changed his image. He says that doing projects he’s not supposed to do his his theme now, but this you really do have to raise you,’re eye brow at this one.

I was at the show and have to consider this project a noble failure. The songwriting is polished but at the same time suffers from a “we’re good craftsmen, lookit lookit” mentality that overwhelms the songs. That said, I admire the risk taking but didn’t enjoy the songs.
    :( I’m a big Cornell fan too.
