This is Joey from Lil' Slugger. It sounds like we confused you. We actually didn't have a whole lot of control over the length of our sound check (my monitor mix was kind of cock-eyed as it was, and I have a feeling that the PA mix was a little drum and vox heavy). I'm sorry if we took too long to set up. We don't think good rock music requires discipline. In fact, discipline of the kind I think you're talking about often gets in the way of good music (think the Stooges or the Velvet Underground. Well, in VU's case it was the black leather discipline, but that's a little different). and we have two drummers mainly for texture rather than making our beats super complicated or mathematical. Listening to some Fela Kuti afro-beat (try youtube) might give you a better idea of our inspirations on that front. Meric Long also studied African drumming (Ewe, if I remember correctly), although Kroeber definitely has better chops than we do. And I would give myself about a C guitar grade technical wise for that night (I was tired, but that's no excuse!). We'll see you round, hopefully.
