Hi Brian! Widowers are amazing, I agree. They're local, can you believe it? I think they're playing a show with the Overcasters soon.

Dearest Sports Fan:

This is a case where I sort of feel like inviting you to read the whole article again. You said I pigeonholed a band, but I said (verbatim) I had difficulty stereotyping them. I guess you could say that the theme of the article was: this is not for me, and so I'll describe the music for anyone who might be into that sort of thing. So because of that, I went into detail and described the Whigs' sound - pretty positively, in fact.

I will admit to the tone of disdain I use to talk about overly reactive frat dudes who punch me in the face. I go to shows more than your typical music fan, and we get wasted and dance and rock out. You can have fun without being a complete dickhead.

In fact, the environment at Gogol Bordello, a concert I spent in the mosh pit, was much more positive than the Whigs. People were still respectful of each other - the bottom line is you can tell when someone is just out looking for a fight. I don't want to make a blanket statement and say that this attitude doesn't belong in indie rock, because that would be crazy. But it's not very common, and I personally don't welcome it.

This show was really exciting up until about three songs into the Whigs' set. I liked their record but found them to be a bit boring after two great openers.

I walked in as the widowers (I'd never heard of them before) started and loved them. I liked that they started quietly, with reverb-crazy harmonies and gradually shifted towards really rocking songs. I couldn't find them online, does anyone know where they're from/if they have an album out?

The spinto band took a a few songs to impress me, but I came around and ended up really enjoying their super-tight upbeat pop tunes...

The WHigs... are better on record.

I never knew that a knowledge for sports saturated a band's level of indie-rock prowess.
Next time, try to not let your need to be SO cool get in your way at a rock show; you'll have a lot more fun. You missed a good one by pigeonholing a band based on a couple of their fans and your overall general attitude before you even set foot in that place.
I know we all like to make fun of people who aren't EXACTLY like us, but don't publicize it...it really discredits the level of your writing and the reputation of the Post.

I was at this show and thought the Whigs were incredible. One of the best live acts out there. Spinto Band was ok, but had homosexual tendencies. The WHIGS ROCK.

You wanted to punch Chad and Chadette for having a good time at a rock and roll concert? Maybe they wanted to punch you in the face for doing your homework at a rock and roll concert.

I don't know what I find more attractive. Chad impersonation or Chad mockery. This article stirs up desires to create websites dedicated to chad sightings while at the same time throw on an A&F t-shirt, backwards yankees hat, nike armband, and head down to LO-DO for a night of high fives and enriching conversations such as:

Chad 1: "Dude"
Chad 2: "What up Bra"

I tip my hat to you Chad for causing such a hurricane of hilarious emotions to course through my veins, and by tip my hat I obviously mean I offer you my "pound-it-out-br"a fist...
