Sure, bands use the big shows as platforms to release their new CDs or music videos.

But the Flobots might be the only group in town that use their biggest headlining show (to date) to launch their very own non-profit organization.

“We were thinking that music could be something more than entertainment,” said Jamie Laurie, a.k.a. Jonny 5, one of the Flobots’ MCs, in an article that ran in The Denver Post on Friday. “As a band, we have unusual resources. We have an audience and regular performances where we play and speak in front of young people. The stage can be a platform for social change and civic organization.”

The Flobots are onto something — and it’s big. Read the entire story here. And in the meantime, check out their music here. They’ll be announcing a couple more shows here in the near future.

Reverb contributor Brian Carney was at the Gothic on Saturday, where he witnessed the capacity crowd lose themselves in the hip-hop of the Flobots.

I went to this show. I’ve had the cd for sometime but this was the first show I had the oppertunity to attend. It’s by far one of the best shows I’ve ever been to.
